Lancaster City Council’s cabinet has revised its budget plans to ensure the long-term, sustainable future for The Platform entertainment venue in Morecambe following public feedback, councillors have said.
Speaking this week before the latest cabinet meeting, Conservative group leader Coun Andrew Gardiner said: “Conservatives oppose the closure of The Platform and tourist information centres and we will look at all options to keep them open. The Platform plays an essential part in the Morecambe community and surrounding areas. The decision by the rainbow coalition of Green, Labour and Morecambe Bay Independents, and propped-up by the Lib Dems, is short-sighted and a disgrace.
Coun Tricia Heath, another cabinet member, said, “I am pleased to support this. As previously stated, the Morecambe Bay Independents have always been determined to keep The Platform and a visitor centre open, although we think it is crucial that the council talk to interested parties who could run the venue successfully at no cost to the local council tax-payer.
