'Consumers in Canada are still not sold on the idea of automotive electrification,' says J.D. Ney, director of the automotive practice at J.D. Power Canada From jefflagerquist

Electric vehicles and other zero-emission registrations in Canada slipped in the first quarter of 2023 from a record high at the end of last year, according to S&P Global.

Those are among the latest findings from J.D. Power Canada's second Electric Vehicle Consideration study, released on Thursday. The market research firm collected nearly 5,000 responses from consumers in April and May. In the U.S., J.D. Power points to a "widening consideration gap" with Canada. The number of American participants who said they would consider an electric vehicle climbed to 61 per cent this year, versus 59 per cent in 2022.
