STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSLiam Welsh and the Halifax Mooseheads have agreed the best place for him to play hockey this season is in Truro.
The QMJHL team announced on Tuesday the 18-year-old forward will join the Bearcats of the Maritime Hockey League rather than stay with the Mooseheads. Welsh played in 28 games last season as a full-time member of the team, as well as nine more in 2021-22 as a callup. He had one goal and three assists over two seasons.
The Halifax native had to spend his share of time as a scratch after the Mooseheads added forward depth in 2022-23 so he will benefit from increased time in Truro this year. He wil remain a leading candidate for callups. Welsh's departure leaves the Mooseheads with 13 forwards, seven defencemen and two goalies. They will start the regular season with those 22 players but are expected to add a 20-year-old forward at some point over the next few months.
