Abbey Clint said she ‘grew up unvaccinated before it was cool.’
Abbey Clint recently wrote on Facebook about choosing not to follow in her anti-vaxxer mom’s footsteps and getting her babies their much-needed shots.
“I grew up unvaccinated before it was cool,” Clint wrote in the April 30 post, that has since been shared over 3,000 times. “I’ve had to catch up on my inoculations with each pregnancy. Glad I didn’t catch measles while pregnant! Glad my babies don’t need to suffer through preventable infectious diseases.”Clint, 30, changed her mind about vaccines when she learned that her mother-in-law almost died when she contracted measles.
“There’s a lot of anti-vax memes being shared in my personal circles,” she told BuzzFeed News. “So I was just throwing out a different side of things, just for the sake of keeping it a conversation and not an echo chamber.” Clint said she gradually learned about vaccines and consulted a doctor she trusted. Her daughters haven’t had any bad reactions to the shots and are healthy, she said.
“I think there is a lot of fear that is embedded in this whole issue,” she said. “That goes beyond simply the vaccines themselves.”Comment Related Topics
