Officers found the victim in a front yard suffering a gunshot wound.
“A 13 year old child dead- a child that’s ripped out of our community that could have been prevented,” said Chief Paul Prine.) - A 13-year-old boy died after he was shot Wednesday night on Macks Street in Mobile and his cousin, 18-year-old Terry Penn, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to police.
Police said they responded to the shooting at about 11:42 p.m. and that officers found the boy in a front yard suffering a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the MPD. “In consulting with the District Attorney’s office, it was important that we still brought the charge because we still have to deal with the death of a 13-year-old child,” he added.
Chief Prine stresses the importance of knowing how to properly handle a weapon so these tragedies stop happening.
