As Don Garber enters his 23rd year as the commissioner of Major League Soccer, the league is at a pivotal moment in its history.
Box to Box is the team behind Netflix’s “Drive to Survive,” the wildly popular series that’s helped popularize Formula 1 in the United States. More recently, Box to Box produced “Full Swing,” its attempt to replicate that success with the story of golf’s PGA Tour. MLS’ deal with Apple is still in its infancy and specific terms of the pact have been hard to come by. Sources familiar with the arrangement, though, have suggested over the past few months that the league’s agreement with Apple contains an “opt-out” clause that allows Apple to walk away from the agreement if the league doesn’t drive a certain number of subscribers to Season Pass in a set timeframe. Garber did not confirm or deny such a clause.
Messi is out of contract this summer and is in discussions regarding a contract extension with his current club, Paris Saint-Germain. He is also in discussions over’s David Ornstein. The World Cup winner, who turns 36 this summer, won the tournament’s Golden Ball award and followed it up by recently claiming The Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
“The fee will be way more than $325 million, but we haven’t confirmed that number yet,” Garber said.
