Mitch Marner and captain John Tavares like the edge and grittiness that Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi and Ryan Reaves will bring to the Leafs.
“When I heard about , it was already done,” Marner said. “I was super-stoked. Max is a great player. A great person off the ice as well. Really brings a lot to your team intensity-wise, pace-wise and can do a lot of dangerous things with the puck.”
“Every year there are changes and no question, we’ve had a few, but we’re excited about what they bring and the qualities that they have and how they’ll complement our group really well,” Tavares said of the new Leafs. “Some good strides were made last year, we’re not satisfied and it’s disappointing that we have a summer as long as we’ve had, but no doubt the group is driven and excited about the pieces added.
Tavares acknowledged that he was surprised that Dubas was fired by Leafs president Brendan Shanahan on May 19.
