The capital murder trial of a man accused of fatally shooting another man while he was asleep on the couch of a northern Birmingham home has ended in a mistrial.
There were five people asleep in the modest home in the Fairmont neighborhood when the shots rang out that morning.Robert Chandler, Morris’ cousin and the owner of the home, said Morris had a good heart.Sonya Cook, a niece of Morris, gave a similar description of Morris’ character.“He’d give you the clothes off his back. He wasn’t doing nothing except trying to get some sleep.”“I jumped on the floor. I didn’t know where the bullets were coming from,” he said.
