Troy Brown, who entered the Texas Bowl as Mississippi's top tackler, was ejected for targeting.
USA TODAY Sports' Paul Myerberg and Dan Wolken break down the college football playoff.HOUSTON — Mississippi linebacker Troy Brown was forced to exit the Texas Bowl early Wednesday night after being called for targeting.
The penalty and subsequent disqualification brought about an end to Brown's collegiate career, with his eligibility expiring at the conclusion of the 2022 season. Brown's shoulder made contact with the head of sliding Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough early on in the second quarter, with the Red Raiders holding a 10-7 lead.
Brown's penalty also cost the Rebels 15 yards, but the Mississippi defense bailed Brown out by forcing a turnover on downs inside its own 5-yard line a few plays later.
