A missing infant found in the search for Constance Marten and Mark Gordon’s newborn baby was discovered in a plastic bag, a court has heard.Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and that they were of no fixed abode during a hearing in front of a packed courtroom.The court heard the remains of a baby were found in a plastic bag under some nappies in an allotment shed.
The infant is yet to be formally identified and a post-mortem examination is due to take place on Friday. Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, both of no fixed address, were arrested on Stanmer Villas in Brighton on Monday.On Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said it is ‘too early’ to provide a specific date of death for the baby they had found, adding that the infant had been dead for ‘several weeks’.To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that
Tributes were left on Golf Drive in Brighton near to where remains have been found in the search for the two-month-old baby Earlier on Thursday, the force’s Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said officers had been unable to determine the baby’s gender.He said: ‘At this stage we have not yet been able to confirm the baby’s gender and post-mortem examination has not yet taken place.
‘Despite this, based on our inquiries we’ve carried out so far, we believe sadly the baby may have been dead for some time before they were found.
