Tanner Hoang, 22, went missing Dec. 16 in College Station, and the search for him ended Christmas Eve, when he was found dead in Austin.
Hoang had been a student at Texas A&M University living off-campus in College Station. He was last seen at 11 a.m. by his roommate, before Hoang was supposed to meet his family for an 11:30 a.m. lunch. Hoang never showed at the lunch date, according to David Simmons, a spokesman for the College Station Police Department. Hoang’s family had been in town for his graduation.
Hoang had not been responding to calls or texts when he went missing. Around noon the day he went missing, his credit card was used at a gas station in Caldwell, and later at a store in Bastrop, Simmons said.Hoang's family used social media to gather volunteers to help with the search, garnering a lot of attention.
While the search for Hoang was ongoing, his mother posted on Facebook: “When we made the difficult decision to push this through social media, we had no idea the depth and width of support, care, concern and prayer that would follow. It has been a firestorm of love for an ‘average Joe’ young man.”Hoang was found dead Saturday near the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360 in Austin, not far from where his vehicle was found.
