Center fielder Esteury Ruiz pushed his on-base streak to 43 straight games, as he doubled and walked and swiped three bases inHis 27 stolen bases lead the Texas League and are second in all of minor league baseball behind organization-mate Max Ferguson, who has 30 at low Single-A Lake Elsinore.
Ruiz, 23, sat as high as No. 15 in the Padres system in Baseball America’s 2018 rankings but has not cracked the organization’s top-30 in any of the last three seasons.Right-hander Thomas Eshelman struck out six and allowed an unearned run on five hits and no walks over six scoreless innings for the win.
Right-hander Moises Lugo struck out four over two scoreless innings and right-hander Carlos Belen pitched a scoreless ninth.
