Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam has fully reopened after a wildfire in the High Knoll area on Oct. 1, 2022. Crews from Metro Vancouver, Coquitlam Fire Department and B.C. Wildfire spent weeks getting the human-caused fire under control.Some restoration work continues this year but areas with wildfire damage will largely recover naturally over time. The work is aided by $14,000 raised by the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation and the Minnekhada Park Association.
Minnekhada first opened in 1981 and has become a popular spot for hiking and wildlife viewing. Next to the Pitt River, it supports marshes and other ecosystems and offers extensive habitat for bears.
