, Abbott wrote: “I stand ready to work with you to craft any sensible legislative solutions your office may propose that are aimed at solving the ongoing border crisis and the role that NGOs may play in encouraging it.”
“U.S. law protects the right of those fleeing grave harm to ask for safe haven,” she said. “The law does not guarantee the right to remain in the United States, but it does require a full and fair process to allow asylum seekers to make their case. We need to focus on solutions that promote an orderly and humane reception at the border rather than senseless sideshows that make a mockery of true governance.
Through his 10-year-old organization, Canales places water stations in remote areas where migrants travel. In grim cases, he works with forensic anthropology teams that exhume the bodies of dead migrants and reunite the remains with family members in Latin America.
