WASHINGTON—Sen. Debbie Stabenow said she won’t seek re-election, potentially narrowing Democrats’ path to holding on to the majority in the 2024 elections.

“Inspired by a new generation of leaders, I have decided to pass the torch in the U.S. Senate,” she said Thursday. Ms. Stabenow, 72 years old, said she would leave the Senate at the end of her term on Jan. 3, 2025. She is chairwoman of the Agriculture Committee and was first elected to the Senate in 2000.
