A Saskatoon woman was told help was not available when she needed it most, having to wait an hour for an ambulance to show up at her home. yxe skpoli

“We’re continuing to try to find efficiencies with the emergency room doctors, with the ambulance providers and with all the people in the SHA,” said Merriman.

Sharon Chartier said she had to wait an hour for an ambulance to arrive at her Saskatoon area home after she called 911.Chartier worked at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon for 30 years, with a decade and a half of her career spent in ORs. What kept her in the field was a passion for the work, for feeling like she was helping people in dire need of assistance.

By Feb. 7, her resting heart rate was over 120 beats per minute by her own monitoring. She knew this meant she was in trouble. “Maybe I was having a heart attack,” she said. Once in the ambulance, she said she was triaged and sent to City Hospital. There, the Emergency Room was full. So, for another hour she remained in the ambulance, idling in a parking garage as paramedics tended to her.
