ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — As the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race nears its 50th anniversary, Memorial University will take the helm, making history in Atlantic Canada when it hosts the event for the first time.“It shows that Memorial can compete with anyone. It further cements Memorial's place on the map in Canada as a leader in the engineering community.”
Since 2018, Memorial has been a consistent contender in the race. Last year, the competing team secured the bronze medal.Each teamwill craft a toboggan with four concrete skis, one positioned on each corner.On race day, teams race down a snow-covered hill, facing off in a series of courses. "We're excited to bring the GNCTR to St. John's and showcase Newfoundland and Labrador to participants from coast to coast," said Hogan.
"Though this goes beyond competition. It's an opportunity for the province to attract young professionals, especially in the fields of engineering and technology."
