Meet the Toyota robots assisting mobility at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics:

Working closely with Tokyo 2020 Robot Project, the Japanese car giant will provide a fleet of innovative and quirky robots, designed to support attendees as well as those unable to physically join in the fun. The scheme is led by the sporting events’ local organizing committee, who are working with the government and Olympics partners with the ambition to make this the most technologically-advanced Olympics in history.Toyota has been exploring robotics for a long time.

A remote-location robot allows expressions of arm movements, whilst a camera mounted on the robot’s head recognizes nearby people, then uses its eyes to respond with a variety of expressions. The robots have miniature joint units across their bodies for extra flexibility when being controlled.
The field support robot collects sports equipment from the 'throwing games' from around various fieldsKoga explains that for Toyota the concept of “mobility for all” needs to evolve beyond the physical movement from place to place to include virtual mobility. “This provides further opportunities to experience new things, meet and interact with others, or to be moved emotionally.
