Infinite tongs, anyone? This product makes use of forks and spoons in your kitchen.
Samphel, 40, who lives in Clifton, worked in digital design and product design for years, at companies including Nintendo, ADP and Facebook/Meta. But he was always tinkering with the idea of launching his own product. So, one day he thought of those improvised tongs his mother would make and attached a fork and spoon to a chip bag clip using the end of a balloon.
At first, he sold the tongs for $19.99 each, or $24.99 for a two-pack. Now he offers a two-pack for $19.99 and one for $12.99..” But Samphel didn’t see their email until three months later.When Samphel learned it was the genuine article, he embarked on several rounds of auditions starting in January 2022. He assumed he would get cut, but kept advancing in the process. In September, he flew to Los Angeles to film his pitch. Then he waited. And waited.
He’d often brainstorm business and product ideas with his brother, PJ. Their mother died of esophageal cancer in 2018. Samphel, who also lived in Jersey City and Nutley, became a video game designer at Nintendo, then moved to San Francisco for another job in mobile app development before returning to Jersey to work at ADP for seven years, after which he took a job working on Facebook/Meta’s video-calling platform.
