The National Taxpayer Advocate hotline fielded nearly 3 million calls between Oct. 1, 2020 and Sept. 30, 2021, a 990% increase from the previous 12 months, and received 264,343 new cases.
I wasn't really sure what I was doing, but in hindsight, it was a great choice. So I went right from law school to the IRS Chief Counsel. I worked there for about 15 years and wore multiple hats that were very helpful for my current role. I think it's a fascinating position, and I'm very privileged to be serving as the national taxpayer advocate. We can be independent, step back and look at things a little bit differently than our IRS colleagues.
