Shively, 55, was one of the hundreds of people who stormed the Capitol complex in an effort to disrupt Congress while it certified the 2020 presidential election results. The DOJ said 870 people have been arrested in almost all 50 states for their involvement in the attack.Shively’s attorney argued his client was “someone who obviously got a little carried away” and that he was only a part of the riot for 10 minutes.
Shively went past broken-down police barriers and went up the steps of the Capitol, where he was confronted by officers defending the building. Shively told investigators at the time that he “got caught up in the moment,” but admitted to the assaults on both officers.
