Disco queen Gloria Gaynor will headline the Mayor's Holiday Spectacular in Houston. The free event includes the lighting of the tree by Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Forget winter wonderland. This year's holiday tree lighting will turn Houston into a boogie wonderland.This resort transforms into a Christmas wonderland, with live reindeer and a pop-up Arctic Lodge

Disco queen Gloria Gaynor will headline the Mayor's Holiday Spectacular, 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hermann Square at City Hall. The free event includes the lighting of the tree by Mayor Sylvester Turner and photos with Santa. Gaynor, of course, is best-known for the enduring"I Will Survive," a disco hit that has been refashioned as an anthem for many over the years. Gaynor rewrote her signature hit as"Texas Will Survive" in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Her other hits include"Never Can Say Goodbye" and"I Am What I Am." Earlier this year, Gaynor teamed up with pop icon Kylie Minogue for the duet"Can't Stop Writing Songs About You.

The Christmas event will also feature Houston Contemporary Dance Company, Parker Elementary Strings, Dance of Asian America and Ernest Walker and the Official Holiday Band.Joey Guerra is the music critic for the Houston Chronicle. He also covers various aspects of pop culture. He has reviewed hundreds of concerts and interviewed hundreds of celebrities, from Justin Bieber to Dolly Parton to Beyonce.
