City council will be asked Monday night to approve zoning changes allowing a 49-unit residential development on the former site of Manitou Park Public School.
The new residential units needed include 850 to 1,160 apartments and from 1,955 to 2,265 single-detached, semi-detached, or row houses, the report concludes. "The type of housing being proposed is simply not in keeping with the character of our neighbourhood," Watkins wrote. "New development increases property values, not the opposite. This site was an old elementary school that was demolished and is proposed for redevelopment, so the redevelopment of it will not alter any natural habitats.
