After dozens of trail cameras were stolen from a wild horse conservation group, Sundre RCMP has laid charges against a Mayerthorpe man.
Ten research trail cameras were stolen on Oct. 18, 2021, from the Williams Creek area near Sundre. HAWS told Postmedia after the thefts that they had already ordered more cameras and planned to install them immediately.Article content Sundre RCMP said on Saturday that another 54 research cameras were reported missing on March 6, 2023. The value of these cameras is estimated to be $12,500.With assistance from Mayerthorpe RCMP, Sundre officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Mayerthorpe on March 9. Officers recovered 52 of the stolen cameras.
RCMP has charged Lonnie Darrel Roth, of Mayerthorpe, with possession of property obtained by a crime and mischief. Roth is next scheduled to appear in Mayerthorpe Provincial Court on May 11. He has been released from custody on conditions.Mayerthorpe is located more than 400 kilometres north of Calgary, and more than 280 kilometres north of Sundre.
