No amateur has ever won themasters Sam Bennett (A) finished his opening round with a bogey-free 68 (-4) at Augusta National. His 32 (-4) tied the lowest score on the first nine in Masters history by an amateur.
Per Augusta National officials, following the completion of Brooks Koepka’s round, the Competition Committee questioned his caddie, Ricky Elliott, and others in the group about a possible incident on No. 15. Seems there were questions stemming from Elliott potentially passing along information, but it was determined he was speaking to an announcer. Per a press release from Augusta, all involved were adamant that no advice was given or requested.
Asked about it after his round by media, Koepka said, " and had no idea what we were hitting; they didn't even know because — I know that fact because GW asked me what we hit walking off, when we were walking down."
