TheMarvelousMrsMaisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has discussed whether the series could get a reboot or spinoff after its final Season 5. “We want to make sure that when we go out, we go out with a bang. I think it’s too early to think about [that].”

Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, opens up about the possibility of a reboot. Debuting on Amazon Prime Video in March 2017, the dramedy is set during the 1950s and 1960s. Its story focuses on Miriam “Midge” Maisel , a New York housewife who discovers her talent for stand-up comedy after being dumped by her husband, and begins to pursue that career path.

A day before the premiere of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4, it was announced that the series would be ending with season 5, which is currently in production. In discussing her roadmap for Midge’s journey, Sherman-Palladino has said in past interviews that season 1 would be about Midge finding comedy, while seasons 2 and 3 would center around Midge's unraveling and going on tour, respectively. As for the very last scene of Marvelous Mrs.

“When we did the [Netflix] Gilmore Girls “reboot,” which was just four movies, it wasn’t really a reboot. I don’t know, had there been many reboots before then? I think there was Fuller House, but there weren’t a lot of reboots. And now, it’s such a thing. I don’t know, I mean, we always set out to tell a story, to take them on their journey. You want to leave while people still want you there.

Sherman-Palladino's thoughts on a Marvelous Mrs. Maisel reboot or spinoff certainly make sense. To use the Gilmore Girls as an example of a worthwhile continuation, the original series had ended on a disappointing note for many fans. As the result of moving from The WB to the then newly-created CW, Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel were unable to come to an agreement with the new network, and departed the show they created.

Again, Sherman-Palladino stops short of completely shooting down a future revival of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and her comments simply make it clear that it would be unnecessary at this point. For now, when the final season 5 debuts, Midge’s story will end the way the Palladinos planned for, which will hopefully prove to be a satisfying finale for fans as well. In a pop culture era where almost everything returns in one form or another, sometimes it can be nice to say a final goodbye.
