Marvel's latest Iron Man is a steampunk armor-wearing superhero and Avenger in a world without electricity...and the brave pilot isn't Tony Stark.
Marvel's latest Iron Man has been revealed and it's shockingly not Tony Stark. The famous genius, billionaire, playboy-philanthropist has made dozens of armored suits, each one more powerful than the last, but in the strange world of Dark Ages, the technology has regressed, meaning Stark can no longer use his current armor. As such, Dark Ages #4 reveals a new Iron Man fit for the times - and a new pilot.
In Dark Ages, the world has been irreversibly changed after the artificial being Unmaker, once buried deep beneath the earth billions of years ago, awoke once more and threatened to destroy the Earth. As a last resort, Doctor Strange opened a portal to a dimension where no electricity could function, and the mighty machine was defeated...but managed to kill Strange before the Sorcerer Supreme could close the portal.
The Iron Man armor is considerably more bulky than any one of Stark's more recent creations. The suit appears to run on steam and a cornucopia of gears. What appear to be guns or flamethrowers appear on Pepper's forearms, and the entire apparatus looks like a wearable locomotive. This isn't Pepper's first fight in armor; as Rescue, she saved hundreds of lives in her blue armor...but that suit was primarily suited for defense, not attack.
With Tony Stark captured , and Apocalypse gathering his forces, Pepper Potts has her work cut out for her as the new steam-powered Armored Avenger. Tony Stark memorably fell out of the sky in the first issue, so Pepper understands the risks involved in wearing the contraption. But with the experience she brings to the table, Marvel's new Iron Man may be able to rescue the old. .
