The Sentinels have a new purpose.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary The Sentinels have made life miserable for the X-Men for many years, but now Marvel has revealed a more novel and benevolent use for them. The giant robots were designed to hunt and exterminate mutants, but in Alpha Flight #2, members of the Canadian superhero team create a plan to repurpose the Sentinels into something new and better and save Earth’s mutants in the process.
Alpha Flight #2 is written by Ed Brisson and drawn by Scott Godlewski. To the rest of the world, Alpha Flight has become a team of mutant hunters, working under the auspices of Orchis. In reality, Alpha Flight is secretly working against Orchis, and one of the first targets is the new Box Sentinels.
The Sentinels Are the Last Allies the X-Men Would Expect Using Sentinels to help mutants is a far cry from their original intent. First appearing in 1965’s Uncanny X-Men #14, the Sentinels come in many shapes and sizes, including bio-organic, self-replicating, and microscopic. The fascist anti-mutant organization Orchis has designed a new, and more lethal, breed of robots, called the Box Sentinels.
The Sentinels Have the Potential for Good In the wake of the massacre at the Hellfire Gala, in which the Sentinels played a large role, Earth’s mutants are on the run, hated and hunted like never before. The X-Men need help from anywhere they can get it: Captain America has reformed the Unity Squad to assist, and Alpha Flight is waging a covert war against Orchis. Now, the Sentinels, the last thing anyone would ever associate with helping mutants, may become many’s shot at salvation.
