The two neighbours embark on a secret romance for a while, promising to never hurt their respective partners. However, they soon receive shocking news, as Allan's wife Betty is found dead. The trailer continues with both being questioned by the police on suspicion of murder. Allan denies the crime, as Candy also asserts"I didn't do it" during a police interrogation, setting the scene for the trial.
In real life, Candy Montgomery pled self-defence at trial, and was found not guilty of Betty Gore's murder by a jury in October 1980.
