Celebs including Martine McCutcheon and Claire Sweeney counter the stigma of the menopause
It was once only mentioned in hushed tones, but menopause is now less of a taboo subject, partly thanks to celebrities such as Davina McCall and Andrea McLean speaking candidly about their experiences.
However, she felt it was important to raise awareness about the toll it can take on mental health, writing, “What I’ve not heard mentioned as much is the crippling anxiety you can get with perimenopause. A kind of irrational anxiety that makes no sense whatsoever! I wanted to share this, in case any of you feel the same, and feel scared or worried. You aren’t alone!”
The actress added that walking and meditating makes her feel “calmer”, before telling followers, “I’m sending any of you going through the perimeno/ meno all my love, strength and the belief that you WILL be the true you again – with bells on… And that the best is yet to come! We can do this!” Gabby takes bioidentical hormones and has made lifestyle changes. “I do cardio, weights, loads of Pilates and walking. A mixture of things make me feel good. I also drink plenty of water and less alcohol.”
