Mark Zuckerberg politely asked Trump to maybe not incite violence against protesters

, Facebook reached out to the White House on Friday morning “and urged them to make a change even if it did not violate Facebook’s policies,” a sentiment that Zuckerberg echoed when the president called him later that day. Zuckerberg “didn’t make any specific requests,” according to Axios, but “expressed concerns about the tone and the rhetoric” of Trump’s messaging. Zuckerberg reportedly told Trump “he personally disagreed with” and that put Facebook “in a difficult position.

Such a phone call taking place is not entirely surprising, given that the Facebook CEO has made it his business to keep a line to Trump open. Several Facebook staffers have turned to Twitter in taking issue with Zuckerberg’s handling of the Trump remarks,“Mark is wrong, and I will endeavor in the loudest possible way to change his mind,” wrote, head of design for Facebook’s Portal product line, wrote that “giving a platform to incite violence and spread disinformation is unacceptable, regardless who you are or if it’s newsworthy.
