Sandy MacDonald, the event’s organizer, has been there for it all. Midway through the festival, he told the Post things couldn’t have been going better on what was a rare sunny weekend in the area.
The event also taps into the attractions at the park such as wildlife viewing and boating on the Mira River. Wagon rides and a songwriters circle were also part of the festival. As part of the 10th anniversary, the 2023 Acoustic Roots introduced a square dancing workshop before the Sept. 2 musicians began. Local square dance instructor Hilary Romard led the open lesson.
Square dancing wasn’t the only dancing at Acoustic Roots. Saturday’s performances were kicked off by highland dancers from Sydney’s MacArthur School of Dance. The act featured— the first Nova Scotian ever to capture the world junior crown. She won the event in Scotland on Aug. 26.
