Schulke has become a cult figure among running fans for being the best water bottle guy who has ever lived.
Eliud Kipchoge clocked 2:01:09 in Berlin to shave 30 seconds off his previous world record from the same course in 2018.The latter half of Eliud Kipchoge's marathoning career has been something like a grand science experiment, looking into which parts of a marathon mere mortals had ignored before him. Aided by supershoes, new pacing formations and the relentless pursuit for the fastest course possible, Kipchoge has taken the marathon to an unrecognizable place. He covered 26.
So why not try to shave a tenth of a second here and there on the water bottle handoff? In every other marathon I've ever seen, including the Olympics, the runners have to veer slightly off the shortest route to grab their drinks off a table. When Kipchoge runs in Berlin, though, he has a secret weapon: Claus-Henning Schulke. Maybe you will find this video as mesmerizing as I did:
Schulke has been frantically cycling and fist-pumping with Kipchoge in Berlin since at least 2018, when he went viral for assisting Kipchoge's first world record.You can see that Kipchoge doesn't even have to break his stride to snag a drink from Schulke, who has become a cult figure among running fans for his extreme focus and animated celebrations. Schulke really is a master; Kipchoge doesn't have to reach below his hip for his bottles.
