The incident happened on Saturday afternoon but came to light yesterday after a criminal complaint was filed., signed by U.S.
So, having made it past a number of Secret Service agents, Zhang was finally questioned by a Mar-a-Lago receptionist who smelled a rat and made Agent Ivanovich aware of her suspicions. Upon questioning Zhang, Agent Ivanovich was told she was there to attend a"United Nations Friendship Event" between China and the United States at which point she was transported to the West Palm Beach Resident Office of the Secret Service for further interviewing.
Then things got even more bizarre: during a search, Zhang was found to be carrying four cellular phones, two Chinese passports, one laptop, one external hard drive and one USB thumb drive. Following a preliminary forensic examination, the thumb drive was found to contain malware. There is no information regarding the nature of that malware at this time and it is unknown if Zhang was aware the drive was infected or not.
Although President Trump was staying at Mar-A-Lago over the weekend, he is not thought to have been on the property at the time of the incident. It does, however, raise concerns over security given that an intruder carrying an unusual number of digital devices and malware for good measure managed to make it past a number of Secret Service agents only to be stopped by an alert receptionist. The U.S.
Of course, without forensically examining all devices there is no way to prevent anyone entering Mar-a-Lago carrying malware. One would like to think that cybersecurity processes are in place to prevent any successful execution of malware but given the farcical nature of the Zhang incident I have to say I'm not overly confident that's the case, especially given reports in 2017 that.
