Smith connected with Clerkley on Manvel’s third offensive play of the game for a 54-yard TD pass as the Mavericks led Waltrip 14-0 with 6:56 left in the first quarter. Smith ran for an 8-yard TD run and Smith threw his third touchdown of the game to Clerkley for a 17-yard TD pass in the second quarter as Manvel led Waltrip 28-0 with 8:20 left in the second quarter.Smith, who only played in the first half, finished the game 7 of 9 for 118 yards throwing three touchdowns and rushing for one touchdown for the Mavericks.Backups played in the second half for Manvel.
Waltrip’s lone score came in the third quarter as Eliut Gonzalez hit a 43-yard field goal with 13 seconds left in the third quarter. Waltrip was led by senior quarterback/wide receiver Shaun Crawford had 18 carries for 40 yards for the Rams.Manvel advances to the area round where the Mavericks will take on either Smithson Valley or Cedar Park, who play on Friday night. This will be the 11th straight seasons the Mavericks have made it to the area round. Waltrip’s season comes to an end in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
