Decision will be made in next two weeks

Health P.E.I. will be making a decision in the next two weeks about lifting the mandatory mask regulations in facilities such as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. - Drew Bloksberg/SaltWireCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The mandatory masking policy in health-care facilities across P.E.I. may be lifted soon.

This move follows the legal mandatory masking order that P.E.I.’s Chief Public Health Office had in place. “We do know masking remains important and we have absolutely reinforced that through the pandemic,’’ Morrison said after confirming the legal order to enforce masks was lifted. “I think health-care workers will still wear masks based on risk assessment.’’

Dr. Michael Gardam, Health P.E.I. CEO, says all health-care workers were notified April 17 that the policy on mandatory masking may change soon in P.E.I. health-care facilities. - SaltWire file “When we look ahead it is possible, at some point, we’ll have to put masks back in place, if things change,’’ the CPHO said. “It’s about balance. We still have COVID around, so we have to be careful.’’
