Mental health bosses claimed medics assessed Conor Clarkson for 45 minutes but records prove it couldn't have lasted more than nine
Town Hall today heard evidence from A&E nurse Nicola Roberts who explained that Conor's hospital medical records showed that by 5.19am on July 3 Conor's mental health assessment had finished. The inquest has previously heard it was started at 5.10am.
The assessment was carried out by mental health liaison team leader Carole Middlebrook who had earlier told the inquest that the process should take around 45 minutes. Ten minutes after the assessment concluded, Conor was discharged and allowed to return home. Nurse Roberts, who works for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust whereas Ms Middlebrook works for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, told Assistant Coroner Tim Holloway that it can take hours for a patient to receive a mental health assessment depending on how busy the department is. Conor waited around five hours to be seen.
In her A&E notes Nurse Roberts described how Conor had "very poor eye contact" and was quite agitated. "I would perhaps see someone with poor eye contact like that if they were struggling with their mental health," she added.Earlier in the inquest the coroner heard that Conor had been living with his granny since he was a young boy after being removed from the care of his mother.
After one incident in April 2019 they had started locking Conor in his bedroom at night and on at least one occasion Mrs McCabe, who was born inThe inquest, which is due to last three weeks, also heard that after he was arrested for killing Mrs McCabe Conor was diagnosed with a severe form of paranoid schizophrenia. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to indefinite detention in a medium-secure hospital.
