Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man wanted for the murder of a gas station clerk on Sunday morning has been caught in Ohio at a highway rest area, Syracuse police said.
Police on Monday also released the name of the man killed: Raouf Muharram, 32, of Greenville, North Carolina. He wasMuharram was found behind the store counter, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He is Syracuse’s first homicide victim of 2022. Kareem D. Huggins, 30, of, Syracuse, was arrested at 12:45 a.m. Monday at a rest stop on the Ohio Turnpike near Sandusky, Ohio, according to Syracuse police. That’s about 420 miles west of Syracuse.Huggins, who was arrested without incident by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, had a stolen gun on him at the time, Syracuse police said.
He was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Huggins is being held in the Sandusky County Jail and will be extradited back to Syracuse, Syracuse police said.
