The fatal crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. Sunday night and the driver stayed at the scene to speak with investigators, California Highway Patrol officials said

A man walking in traffic lanes on Interstate 5 just north of downtown San Diego was struck and killed Sunday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred just after 8:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the freeway near state Route 163 in the Cortez Hill neighborhood, CHP officials said in a news release. The man was struck by Nissan Altima. He suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. No other information about the pedestrian was available Monday.The Nissan driver — a 26-year-old woman — pulled over and spoke with CHP investigators at the scene, officials said. She was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.Investigators asked anyone with information about the crash were asked to call CHP at 293-6000.
