A man was shot in East Oakland early Monday as he was walking to his vehicle from a store.
OAKLAND — A 28-year-old man was shot early Monday as he was walking in East Oakland, authorities said.
The man, who has a Hayward address, was wounded in the back. He was initially listed in critical condition at a hospital but was later upgraded to stable, authorities said. The shooting, which activated a ShotSpotter alert, was reported about 12:02 a.m. Monday in the 1600 block of 57th Avenue, a mostly residential area.
The man told police he was walking from a store in the area to his vehicle when he heard multiple gunshots and realized he had been wounded. Numerous shell casings were recovered at the scene.
