A man murdered his girlfriend of five years before taking his own life Saturday night in their East End home, according to Houston police.

The couple's neighbors heard a disturbance, and then gunshots, about 11:15 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Villa De Matel Road, Houston Police Sgt. Corey Harrington said. Officers found a man, believed to be in his late 20s, dead alongside his 25-year-old girlfriend, Harrington said.
Investigators believe the man fatally shot the woman before turning the gun on himself. It appeared that someone in the apartment was in the process of moving out, Harrington said.The incident remains under investigation.
