Amos Price, 30, was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail after he was caught on surveillance footage setting a dog loose on a cat in Walsall, England.
The court also heard that Price, an unemployed father of two, had claimed to be drunk during the incident. His defense attorney told the court that he is ashamed of his actions and would not have triggered the attack if he had been sober.
Following the sentencing, Walsall Police Chief Superintendent Andy Parsons thanked those who raised awareness of the appeal and provided information that led to Price's arrest. "As a police force and community we have all been appalled by the sickening actions of Price. It was completely mindless, senseless and beyond any justification," he said.
"We are grateful to the support we received from the public who played a vital role in assisting our investigations and making sure he was brought to court to face punishment.", a spokesman for animal welfare charity the RSPCA said:"We'd like to thank the members of the public that came forward with information about this very distressing attack on a much-loved pet cat, who must have suffered terribly.
"The outcome today is as a result of multi-agency working with the police and we are grateful for their help in bringing this prosecution."
