A homeless man was shot in the stomach early Thursday while sleeping in a vacant Midtown building, according to Houston police.
The man was taken a hospital and was rushed into surgery early Thursday, Lt. Ignacio Izaguirre, of the Houston Police Department, told On Scene reporters. His status was not immediately clear.Officers around 3:45 a.m. responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Tuam and Fannin streets, Izaguirre said. Preliminary investigation showed the man fled to a nearby high-rise apartment building after he was shot and knocked on the door until a security guard answered.
Investigators weren’t yet sure of a description of the person who shot the man or why he was targeted, Izaguirre said.
