The man was arrested and charged six days after the fatal crash.
A driver allegedly involved in a deadly hit-and-run in Garfield last week was charged and arrested Monday, investigators said.
Officers were called to Outwater Lane shortly before 9 p.m. on Jan. 3 and found that Shazia Faazal, 51, of Garfield had been hit by a car, according to a statement from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. Faazal was taken toAn investigation alleged a 2010 driven by Victor Diaz-Castaneda, a 51-year-old realtor from Paterson, hit Faazal as she was crossing Outwater Lane, the office said. Diaz-Castaneda fled the scene before police arrived, authorities alleged.
Diaz-Castaneda was arrested Monday and charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, endangering an injured victim and multiple motor vehicle offenses, authorities said. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending his court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
