A man died after a shooting Tuesday in a West Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Around 4 p.m., Oakland police responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity near Ninth and Pine streets in the city’s Prescott neighborhood.
When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers provided emergency life-saving measures alongside Oakland Fire Department firefighters, a fire department spokesman said. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available, pending next-of-kin notification by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau.The shooting marks the 39th homicide investigated by Oakland police so far this year. There were 47 homicides at this point in 2021.
