Three stabbed during a gender studies class last month
KITCHENER — A 24-year-old man charged with stabbing two students and a professor in a gender studies class at the University of Waterloo last month remains in jail.
Geovanny Villalba-Aleman made a brief court appearance Tuesday from Maplehurst jail in Milton where he is in custody.Villalba-Aleman faces four counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and one count of mischief. Aggravated assault is defined as wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering life.

The assailant went into the classroom in Hagey Hall, attacking the professor and injuring others who tried to stop the attack, before trying to escape by blending in with other students in the chaos. Waterloo Regional Police have said the attack was “a hate-motivated incident related to gender expression and gender identity.”Villalba-Aleman, an international student, graduated from UW on June 16, just 12 days before the stabbing, with a bachelor’s degree in science.
