A Chicago man has been charged in the death of a Zion woman whose body was found this week in her apartment, Zion police said Thursday.
Pitak’s body was found by a family member at around 11 p.m. Monday in her apartment in the 2200 block of Lewis Avenue.
There were signs of a struggle, police said, and it appeared the victim has been dead for some time. She had last been seen two days before her body was discovered, police said.Autopsy results indicate she was strangled to death, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. Police located Larsen at his residence in Chicago. During an interview, he made unsolicited comments about the woman’s death, according to police, who said Larsen also appeared to have fresh cuts and scratches on his face, hands and arms.
Larsen was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in lieu of $5 million bail in the Lake County jail. According to court records, Pitak had taken out an order of protection against Larsen for stalking about a year ago, but the case was dismissed. Records indicate that Pitak dropped or declined to pursue the case.
