A man who claimed to shoot the first person he saw in a an area where he said his late brother used to buy drugs, has been charged in connection to the March fatal shooting of a man in west Houston, court records show.
Emerson Giovanni Hernandez, 25, has been charged with the murder of Graylon Rucker, 40, according to Harris County District Court records. Hernandez has been jailed in Rusk County on an unrelated charge, according to the Houston Police Department.Spring Branch police officers around 7 p.m.
A witness told police he’d been playing dice with Rucker shortly before the shooting, and Rucker had gotten into an argument with a man who was angry for losing the game, according to charging documents. The witness said he had invited Rucker to play pool later and that while he was talking to him on the phone, he heard gunshots and Rucker go silent.
Hernandez told police he’d been abused as a child and his brother died two years earlier from a drug overdose, according to charging documents. He said he’d been watching the news and learned some children died that day, so he drove toward Memorial Drive because that’s where his younger brother bought drugs. Hernandez said he then drove a block away to Country Place Drive to follow a group of people he saw on Memorial Drive, and decided to shoot the first person he saw, according to documents.
