Fairfax County police charged Huy Tien Nguyen in the fatal shooting of Alison “Kate” LaPorta
A Lorton, Va., man was charged with second-degree murder Thursday after he took his girlfriend to a hospital with what turned out to be a fatal gunshot wound, police said.
Fairfax County police said they arrested Huy Tien Nguyen, 47, hours after he shot and killed Alison “Kate” LaPorta, 38. Authorities said they also charged Nguyen with felony firearm use. Court records did not list an attorney for Nguyen on Thursday. Late Wednesday night, officers were called to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital after Nguyen arrived there with LaPorta, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body, police said. LaPorta was then taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital and later pronounced dead. Her family members could not be reached for comment.
Police said Nguyen told officers that the shooting occurred in a parking lot. But detectives later concluded that Nguyen shot LaPorta inside a vehicle before driving her to Mount Vernon Hospital, police said. From the start, Spencer Carbery believed in his Caps. He was right.
