The cat survived the ordeal and was under the care of a veterinarian, authorities said.
A man was arrested Monday after he was allegedly caught on a West Deptford resident’s doorbell camera system slamming a cat to the ground multiple times and tossing it into a dumpster, police said.
The resident, an unidentified woman who lives in the Forrest Creek Apartment Complex, called the police on Sunday to tell them she caught the man performing the alleged acts of animal cruelty on her doorbell camera, according to a release from theIn the video, the man was seen picking up the cat in an outdoor vestibule area of the complex, lifting it over his head and throwing it onto the concrete floor several times, the department said.
Police and members of the department of public works emptied the dumpster and found the cat inside, investigators said. The animal was still alive but had suffered extensive injuries so it was turned over to Gloucester County Animal Control to receive veterinary care, authorities said. “The cat suffered extensive injuries was currently being monitored by medial staff,” the release stated.
Christopher Pozzi, 51, of West Deptford, was identified as the man in the video and was arrested on Monday and charged with animal cruelty, the department said.
